Roccapina Beach

Roccapina Beach Guide

Roccapina is a beautiful, pristine inlet beach, with exceptionally turquoise clear waters and powder-soft white sand.

It is a popular beach despite its potholed access road, and is overlooked by the majestic "Lion de Roccapina" granite rock formation so named as it resembles a lion when viewed from the road above.

Beach Description

Roccapina is set in a protected nature reserve, backed by attractive dunes and green shrubbery.

There are rocky headlands either side of the beach, on which the dramatic lion-shaped rock and a Genoese watchtower preside. The granite rocks turn an atmospheric red colour at sunset.

The beach is particularly wide and flat, making it ideal for games and as the water is shallow it is a very popular for small children. There are however no facilities at Roccapina beach, nor much shade, so it is important to be equipped with your own food supplies and sunshade.

A handful of boats are usually moored in the bay.

There is a popular inexpensive campsite "Camping Arepos-Roccapina" very close by and its proximity means that, during peak summer months (July and August) the beach becomes very crowded, despite its remoteness and poor quality access road. Out of the peak season Roccapina is much emptier.

Beach Video

Access is down a badly potholed, and at times undulating and rocky, 2.5 km long dirt track. This can be quite an "adventure" to drive down, but will test the suspension of your hire car and may result in the occasional bramble scratch.

Unless you own a 4X4, be prepared for a very slow, careful descent to the beach.

Facilities

Beach bar/restaurant

None, however there is a snack-bar open to the public at the nearby campsite (located further back up the access track, away from the beach).

Sports

No organized sports facilities.

Parking

Once the access track has been successfully completed, the car park is a welcome sight! Parking is free, and gets busy in peak season. The beach is a short walk from the car park down a sandy path.

Directions

32 km west of Bonifacio, down a 2.5 km dirt track off the N196 road to Sartene.
