Piantarella Corsica

Piantarella and Sperone Beach Guide

Piantarella lagoon is a magnet for windsurfers, with plenty of facilities available for all levels.

Access to the idyllic Sperone Beach is via a 15-minute walk from Piantarella beach, however it gets very busy despite its relatively isolated location.

Beach Description

Piantarella

Piantarella beach is one of Corsica's best windsurfing beaches, renowned for its shallow lagoon and strong easterly winds. There are good facilities for hiring windsurfs and kayaks, and lessons are available.

The beach is not quite as attractive as others in the area, and is backed by marshes. To access the main part of the beach walk over/around a small cluster of rocks.

Sperone

Sperone is an outstanding, untouched pristine beach, with pearl-white sands and aquamarine waters. "Petite Sperone" (the smaller of the two Sperone beaches) can be reached on foot by a 15-minute walk, along Piantarella beach (walk towards the right) then around the headland path. If you hire a kayak at Piantarella you can easily access Sperone by sea.

Sperone has shallow, calmer waters, and is very popular with tourists (despite the walk required).

Close by is Sperone Golf Course, one of France's premier golf courses, with a spectacular cliff-top setting on the Pointe de Sperone.

Capo Pertusato Headland

Also in the vicinity is Capo Pertusato Lighthouse. There are stunning views from here across to the Iles de Lavezzi (Lavezzi Islands) and Sardinia. The lighthouse can also be reached via a breathtaking, popular, coastal path walk from Bonifacio (allow around two and a half hours for the total walk there and back). There is a very narrow road (D260) leading directly to the lighthouse from the D58 - beware of oncoming traffic.

Facilities

Beach bar/restaurant

Two beach bars at Piantarella. No facilities at Sperone beach.

Water Sports and other Activities

Two different centres for lessons and hiring windsurfing/kayak gear at Piantarella: "Bonifacio Windsurf" and "Club de Voile de Bonifacio". Sperone is popular for snorkelling. The exclusive 18-hole Golf de Sperone, Corsica's best golf course, is adjacent to Sperone beach. There are stunning coastal walks in this area, with excellent views across to the beautiful Lavezzi Islands and the Sardinian archipelago (Sardinia is just 11 km away).

Parking

Free parking at Piantarella along the road leading up to the beach - parking can get very busy. There is also a paying car park on the left close to the beach.

Directions

Piantarella is one of the nearest beaches to Bonifacio (approximately a 10-minute drive). Take the D58 out of Bonifacio, then after approximately 200 m take the right turning signposted Piantarella (opposite Tam-Tam surf shop).

There is no direct access by road to Sperone beach - access is by foot from Piantarella beach.
